The study of physicians from Loma Linda University showed that vegetarians are 36% less likely to suffer from metabolic syndrome and as a consequence of that – heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
Doctors examined health state of almost 100,000 people in the United States and Canada, 35% of whom were vegetarians. The specialists paid attention to such factors as age, sex, race, physical activity, caloric intake, smoking and alcohol consumption.
During the study they found out that vegetarians have underestimated rates of triglycerides and glucose levels, lower blood pressure, lower waist circumference and body mass index.
Therefore, American doctors believe that the restriction of meat consumption in diet and lean to vegetables may be a reasonable choice for metabolic disorders prevention.
